Episode 56: ZELDA

Kaz kills cat families to steal their claws, Kyle jumps into Mario Kart 8 for a tournament, and William (and the rest of the crew) still can’t shut up about Breath of the Wild. In news, we talk Switch release sales numbers, the slow and steady death of Hearthstone, and the merits of early access from the perspective of developers. Last but not least, Kaz gives us an update on the start of her game development process. Come pause with us!

Super Bomberman R is selling really well in Japan. It’s the best selling entry in the series since Bomberman World on the PS1 in 1998, which is crazy for how not good it is https://www.destructoid.com/super-bomberman-r-sold-better-in-japan-than-most-of-the-series-in-the-past-20-years-424555.phtml

The Switch is still hard to find and the next shipment isn’t until April. Gamestop will still happily sell you an overpriced bundle with stuff you don’t want, if you need the console that badly. http://www.gamestop.com/nes/consoles/nintendo-switch-with-gray-joy-con-console-starter-bundle-two-delivers-by-4-16-17/143265

Hearthstone seems to be doing its best to slowly die. Pro players are starting to leave, balance patches are infrequent, they’ve cancelled adventures all together, and now they’re increasing the price of packs in Europe. Blizzard really doesn’t want you to play this game. http://esportsedition.com/hearthstone/lifecoach-hearthstone-rng/

Episode 55: The Switchening

This week, we manage to take a long enough break from Zelda to sit and talk about Zelda and our first impressions of the Switch hardware for a couple of hours. Oh, we play some Snipperclips, Fast RMX, Bomberman, and 1-2-Switch, too. In news, we talk Peter Moore, Death Stranding, and cheating in multiplayer games. Then William wraps things up with his list of the top five dramatic choices in video games. Come pause with us!

Episode 54: We <3 Wii U

In this, the final week before the release of the Switch, Kaz mounts up in WoW, Kyle clears out his backlog in anticipation of Zelda, and William starts in on a new genre. In news, we talk streamer culture and physical fitness, with another healthy detour into SNES preservation. Then, we mourn the loss of the Wii U and hold a wake to relive our fondest memories of Nintendo’s strangest console. Come pause with us!

Nintendo Switch Discussion:

  • Snipperclips is a launch title
  • Nintendo hired John Cena to go in the desert and show of the Switch for some reason
  • No Virtual Console at release
  • The Zelda hype is real. Previews and early leaked reviews are all very, very positive

Japanese release game Voez can’t be played in TV mode since it require the touchscreen to be played. Looks like that’ll be a thing, which makes sense given the hardware.

Kyle – That package with $10k of PAL SNES games was found! Preservation project is back on.

Nintendo Switch Discussion:

Game cases look nice, very PSP

Digital purchases will be tied to your Nintendo account. Finally.

Review outlets have them, but can’t talk about them yet. Also very limited in what pictures they can take or what they can talk about. I’m betting the full news storm starts next week.

Speaking of people that have a Switch, that leak from the guy who supposedly got one shipped to him early? Turns out some people from “a distributor” stole/sold a few units. Nintendo hunted them down and exacted justice, since the guy was smart enough to show the serial number in his video.

In news, we talk through the trickle of Swtich info after last week’s flood, and muse on Mass Effect Andromeda and Switch sales projections. Then, special guest Josh Whiting joins us for a nostalgic Save Point where we discuss DOS platformer Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventure. Come pause with us!

Arms is being developed by the Mario Kart 8 team!

Breath of the Wild is going to be Nintendo’s last game for the Wii U. Pretty crazy that they’re cutting off support entirely this early; to my memory, every other Nintendo system has at least gotten a few titles after the new one comes out.

Episode 47: The Backlogs Get Smaller

Welcome to 2017! Kaz, Kyle, and William all get a lot (or at least a little) time off at the end of the year, and that means one thing: lots and lots of videogames. We each talk about the titles we managed to clear out of our backlogs, including Bloodborne, Mighty No. 9, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge, and more. Then in news, we talk more about the ARK: Survival Evolved devs, even more Switch rumors, and AGDQ. We wrap up with a podcast game in place of Save Point, discussing which game character would win in a series of everyday situations. Come pause with us!

Laura Dale chatted it up with Youtuber OBE1plays, and lots of rumors were to be had. Some highlights include 32gb onboard memory, expandable to 128gb via SD card; no friend codes, DeNA is helping with network infrastructure; voice chat; no delay, still on target for March; battery will last around 3 hours with everything on max. There’s more, check out the link below.

Nintendo Switch Fact of the week:

The devs for Ark: Survival Evolved continue to prove that they’re giant poopstains by promising to add a sheep to the game if everyone votes for Ark in Steam’s Best Use of a Farm Animal Award. The page is now changed to say the sheep will be added anyways, but seriously. Come on, guys.
